Choinumni Park to Cedar Grove Elevation profile

August 23, Wednesday, Choinumni Park to Cedar Grove

29 miles, 6066 feet

This was the day with 10,000 feet of climbing and 6000 feet of descent. I knew there was no way I was going to be able to do that, so I sagged to the second rest stop halfway up the big climb. Again it was hot, but not as bad as yesterday.

Several months ago I bought a National Parks Senior Pass. This is a lifetime pass for seniors (over 62) that allows free admission to national parks and other federal recreation sites. I carefully stored it somewhere in my house... The price goes up from $10 to $80 on August 28, so I planned to buy another one before the trip, but that was one of the many things that didn't get done. However the nice lady at the park entrance still had some of the old passes in stock and sold me one for $10.

I have been having trouble with my derailleur – I kept readjusting the rear adjustment screw and then it would get even more out of adjustment. Finally at the bottom of the 3000 foot descent it pretty much quit working completely. I finally figured out it was the S&S coupling on the downtube had come loose. Thank God it didn't come completely loose until after the descent! I didn't want to mess with it any more and try to ride plus I was again getting afffected by the heat, so I just sagged in from there. So I did only 30 miles today, but with lots of climbing.
