The day started cold, rainy, and windy. Again we had strong south winds.
We stopped for muffins at the tearoom in Kekerengu just after a tour bus arrived.
We didn't have lunch as it was too early and too expensive. We did phone
reservations at the Dolphin Lodge in Kaikoura.
We stopped in Clarence for a PB&J lunch out of the wind by a row of trees.
By then it had stopped raining and got a little warmer.
A km or so before the Ohau lookout we stopped by the side of the road to take
more photos of the waves and rocks. We heard a noise and looked down to discover
a colony of seals sunning themselves on the rocks below. We saw more at the
lookout itself.
They raise deer in NZ for the meat and for the felt on the antlers.
In Kaikoura we stopped at a bakery for a snack and proceeded to the hostel.
We walked down the steep walkway to the town center and bought food for dinner.
Sue shopped but did not buy a wool sweater.
Because of the wind we have decided just to take a bus back to Christchurch
tomorrow morning. That will give us time to sight-see in CC. We made bus
reservations by phone and learned the requirements for the bikes.
