A particularly pretty part of my ride today was SR 953, a sylvan 1-lane road running parallel to a creek. About 11:00, I passed a half-dozen young boys on mountain bikes with fishing rods. Obviously headed for their favorite fishing hole after church.
I took a wrong turn somewhere right after that. After a few miles, I
was looking at my shadow and noticed the sun was in the wrong direction.
When I retraced my steps, I still couldn't figure out where I went wrong,
so I just continued on into New Market, had lunch at the Burger King, and
took the direct (if less scenic) route up highway 11 to Mt. Jackson.
I had a little light rain going over Edinburg Gap (photo at right).
I had planned to camp at Elizabeth Furnace Recreational Area tonight,
but since they are predicting rain, I pushed on to Front Royal
to stay in a motel. With the extra miles from the wrong turn earlier
in the day, I ended up doing a century.
