"My Last Spare Spoke"

Old-time police car in back lot with other police cars

I took this photo yesterday just before Oak Ridge. The lettering on the door says, "Oliver Springs Police Dept".

I broke spoke number 7 on my rear wheel today. (I remember Frank laughed at me when he noticed I was taking along 7 spare spokes.) I had planned to go only as far as Rogersville today, but I pushed on to Kingsport so I can hit the bike shop in town tomorrow. I'm due for a rest day anyway.

Despite going 111 miles in heavy traffic with 4580 feet of climbing, I don't feel tired at all. Perhaps all this riding is strengthening me more than I realized. The cool weather probably helped also.

Entering Kingsport on Netherland Inn Road, I had several honks from motorists. Then I noticed a parallel bike path down by the river, but there was no way for me to get over to it at that point. That's one of the arguments against bike paths: Motorists expect you to use them and get angry if you don't.
