I broke two more spokes on the rear wheel, one yesterday and one today. That makes 5 so far, all but one on the non-drive side. At the next bike shop I come to I will have that wheel rebuilt with new spokes. My left pedal has been making funny noises lately. I noticed that the bearings are very loose, but I don't have the proper tools to adjust them. Another reason to stop at a bike shop.
I was kind of listless riding today. The 95-degree heat and high humidity may have had something to do with it. Riding the Clifton ferry over the Tennessee River was the highlight of the day. I got there just as they were ready to push off, so didn't have to wait. You get a much more intimate view of the river from the deck of a boat a foot above the water than you do passing high above on a bridge.
I took a wrong turn after Clifton and ended up coming into Waynesboro from
the south on Hwy 64 instead of from the west on a back road. On the advice
of a fellow in a convenience store, I skipped the first motel and continued
on Hwy 64 over the big hill into town to the Ren Cass motel. The price
was reasonable, and the rooms were quite nice, with a stove and fridge.
