1996 Cross-Country Tour. Day 44, June 30, Memphis TN

Sunday June 30, Memphis TN

"Full Gospel"

Album cover with Al Green's photo

Tonight we are spending a rest day in Memphis. After this, Adam and I will be parting ways as he wants to go through Nashville and I will be slavishly following my route slip through southern Tennessee. Since Adam has the computer, that means no more of these postings for a while. I will try to take extensive notes (on paper) and post a wrap-up when I get back home in 3 weeks or so.

This morning Adam went to church at the Full Gospel Tabernacle, which was founded by the Rev. Al Green, who some may remember from his hit records in the 1970s. While Rev. Green was on tour today, Adam reports that his band lived up to the reputation. I'm sorry I missed out on such a true Memphis experience, but I had no appropriate street clothes to wear, and when you are 6 feet 7 inches tall, you don't just stop in at any Target store and buy clothes that fit. That's what Adam did, and found an excellent-quality dress shirt on the sale table for $3.50.
