On Thursday, Adam and I took different routes between Yellville and Mountain View AR since he had to pick up a package in Mountain Home. My route was along a particularly beautiful and lightly-travelled section of SR-14 through the Ozark Mountains. There is a certain almost Zen-like experience you can get into when you are pedalling alone for miles and miles along a quiet country road.
I have been seeing lots of craft and quilt shops along these back roads. I think it must be a major cottage industry in the area. The photo is a typical Coke stop, Crockett's Country Store, in Harriet AK.
In Mt. View we found a nice tent site at an RV park right next to the Ozark Folk Center State Park. The Folk Center has demonstrations of people making folk crafts which we didn't visit since we got in late. We did take in the concert that evening which featured Ozark folk music and dancing.
On our way to dinner before the concert we met two other cycle
tourists, Chris and Greta from Santa Barbara, who are following a
similar route to ours. We had heard rumors of their existence at
several of our rest stops for the last few days, so it was nice
to catch up with them.
